Beginnings to Today

Frequently socializing in SoHo NYC in the late 70’s, we took our inspiration from the culture that existed in the SoHo (South of Houston) neighborhood in Manhattan. At the time, SoHo was an inexpensive alternative for artists, musicians and bohemians to live cheaply in the Big Apple, it was a progressive, creative, energetic area of city and very exciting to be part of.

Here in New Haven, Westville Village was just starting to go through its own changes, attracting artists, musicians and progressives to live and work here for similar reasons and so, with the love of SoHo in our minds, we were born.

Opening in 1980, Soho Hair Group made its mark in the west end of  New Haven as a progressive, alternative salon unlike the area had seen before. We became known for cutting edge hair design and creative, spirited hair color as our reputation grew. We quickly ran out of service space and in 1985 we underwent a major expansion. We added 14 chairs as well as the addition of a full color department with a staff of Certified Wella Master Colorists, this is the space we occupy today.

We attribute our success to having a priority for education, and a culture of creativity, teamwork and good service. As the interest in full service skincare increased, we added our dedicated Day Spa on the second floor with 9 treatment rooms. Our spa boasts Certified Estheticians and Licensed Massage Therapists known  for their extraordinary facials, massages and waxing services. We now also offer affordable Spa Memberships.

We specialize in Wedding Services and can accommodate wedding parties large or small. For your convenience, our  Bridal Travel Team is available to travel to your venue.

Today, we are recognized for our work with numerous awards, including “Best Of New Haven” since 1983 through 2019”. Here at SOHO Hair Group and Spa, our culture remains; we are spirited, progressive and dedicated to our craft.
